The VFW Post 7234 Honor Guard has a long and proud
history. Begun in the late 1950’s, it is nearly 70 years old.
The VFW Honor Guard performs ceremonial duties to honor and pay tribute to our military veterans, particularly during funerals and memorial services. Our duties are solemn, precise, and follow military traditions.
Our duties include the following:
1. FUNERAL HONORS
This is our most frequent and recognized duty.
The Honor Guard
renders Volley and Taps to our fallen/deceased veterans and participates in the
folding and presentation of the United States flag when requested.
When requested the Honor Guard can escort or stand watch during viewings and services.
2. CEREMONIAL DUTIES
The Honor Guard
represents our VFW Post and fallen/deceased veterans at various public and
patriotic events and ceremonies.
*parades and
patriotic ceremonies and services including:
Memorial Day,
Veterans Day, National Vietnam War Memorial Day, Independence Day, D Day, VJ
Day, 9-11 Remembrance.
*POW/MIA Remembrance
Ceremonies.
*Community Events:
Civic Ceremonies, dedications, school, and special events.
3. MILITARY AND CIVIC EVENTS
* Color Guard Presentation:
The
Honor Guard posts and retires the colors at
services, ceremonies, and special events.
(United
States flag, State flag, VFW Post 7234 flag,
POW/MIA
flag and other banners).
* Escort Services:
The Honor Guard leads processions
at veterans
related and community celebrations.
4. TRAINING AND READINESS
*Drill Practice:
The Honor Guard conducts regular training
in rifle
Drill, ceremonial procedures, and flag
etiquette.
